In 1891, the Swedish Evangelical Mission Covenant
of America (now the Evangelical Covenant Church) founded a college
and seminary in Minneapolis that was moved to Chicago three years
later. For more than 100 years, North Park Theological Seminary
has played a crucial role in instructing students in the Covenant
tradition and preserving and shaping the values and character of
the Covenant church. North Park's ecumenical vision has made it
an institution where students from a wide variety of denominations
feel welcomed and appreciated.
North Park Theological Seminary is the Evangelical Covenant Church's
sole graduate theological school. The Covenant's ministry is strongly
influenced by North Park, and the Seminary's faculty provide a
distinctive resource for the Covenant.
Women in Ministry
The Evangelical Covenant Church and North Park Theological Seminary encourage and support women serving in all areas of ministry. Realizing the challenges that face women in pastoral ministry, a Women in Ministry group meets regularly for fellowship, discussion, and support. All women preparing for ministerial service, female faculty and staff, and various community women in ministry are invited to participate. Men are invited to participate as well. Outside resources, focusing on specific issues that concern women in ministry, often complement the program.
