Edquist named new assistant men's basketball coach

Chris Edquist

CHICAGO, IL (June 22, 2009) – The North Park athletic department introduced Chris Edquist as its new assistant men’s basketball coach and head women’s golf coach this week.

Edquist, a former head coach for the sophomore boys basketball team at Amundsen High School, succeeds coach Steve Schafer.

“Chris is an outstanding addition to our staff. As a former admissions counselor, he has an intimate knowledge of recruiting students to North Park and therefore the transition will be seamless,” North Park Men’s Basketball Head Coach Paul Brenegan said. “He has a passion for North Park and our basketball program that really can’t be replicated. He is extremely hard working and has a great knowledge of the game. He will be a great mentor for our players and I am very excited to be working him.”

Edquist brings an array of experience and knowledge to the Vikings’ program. He was a four-year player for North Park from 2000-2004 and served as the team’s captain his senior year. He has also served as an undergraduate admissions counselor for North Park since October 2006.

“I have always been impressed by Chris Edquist’s work ethic and positive attitude,” Director of Athletics Dr. Jack Surridge said. “As the first winner of the Reed Larson Award he set the standard of excellence at a very high level for those who have followed him.”

North Park had a seven-game winning streak, the most under coach Brenegan, during the 2008-09 season and won the tournament championship at the Ramada Inn Shootout at Trine University.
