Tenglin finishes 15th at NCAA Nationals

Lars Tenglin

CHICAGO, IL (May 24, 2009) – Lars Tenglin put himself in an elite group of North Park track and field athletes this past weekend.

Tenglin finished 15th out of 17 athletes in the javelin throw at the NCAA Division III National Championships in Marietta, Ohio May 21-23. In doing so, the Norton, Massasschusetts native and Norton High School graduate became only the second NP male athlete to qualify for the meet since Craig Hancock accomplished the feat in 2002.

“This is definitely the highlight of Lars’ season, we made it a goal to get to the National Meet and when that became the reality, it was like icing on the best cake you could dream of for this season,” said second-year NP coach Aaron Decker.

In addition to qualifying for the national championships, Tenglin earned his first-ever College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin title in the javelin with a toss of 56.47 meters.

“This is a true testament to what can happen when an athlete puts their time and effort into a great season,” Decker said. “Lars also finished this semester with a 3.3 grade point average in the classroom. He’s one of the best student-athletes that I have had the pleasure to work with through his, just-beginning career.”
