CHICAGO, IL (May 19, 2009) – Five members of the North Park Women's Rowing program were named CRCA Academic All-Americans this week.

Criteria for the selection include a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or above (on a 4.0 scale), at least second year of NCAA eligibility, and having competed in varsity level competitions for 85% of the season’s races.

Honorees include Michelle Benisek (C'10 - Elementary Education), Kara Bladel (C'11 - Exercise Science), Kaitlin Jackson (C'11 Elementary Education), Maya Munson (C'11 Elementary Education) and Kaela Rigterink (C'09 - English).

"It's a tremendous challenge to be a student athlete, and we are proud of our team members that excel in the classroom while dedicating significant time to sport," said sixth year Head Coach Tim Grant.

In the six years as a varsity sport, Viking rowers have had 13 National Scholar honorees. This group of five marks the largest single group in the team's history.
